First In Families of Wake County

About Us
The mission of First in Families of Wake County is to help people with disabilities and their families to believe in their dreams, achieve their goals and give back to others. We provide direct family support to meet the requests of individuals and families for needed goods and services to enhance their ability to live and thrive in the community. We also provide information and referral to other community services and supports. By stretching our public funding through donations and discounts from local businesses and sponsors we are able to provide more assistance to families in need.
First In Families responds to family requests in innovative ways. For example:
- We stretch public funding by partnering with local businesses for donations and discounts
- We respect families as the experts regarding their goals and dreams
- We encourage families to give back to their communities
- We help families plan for the future
- We provide information and referral to other resources
- We educate the public and policy makers about the needs of people with disabilities and their families
Wake County residents who live independently, or with family or friends, are eligible. This includes children age 0-3 who are at risk for developmental disabilities; children 0-4 with a developmental delay; children and adults of any age with developmental disabilities or traumatic brain injuries.
We invite you to partner with us by volunteering for our chapter, facilitating a personal network (training available), or joining our management team.
